Sometimes a Lifesaver!

Author's ReviewI am one of those parents that is very cautious about the use (or over use) of video games in my house. Since I didn't grow up with them, I tend to feel like they get over used these days.
However, I do feel a little differently about the Nintendo DS. Both of my kids have them and they can sometimes be a lifesaver. The graphics are excellent and even I have enjoyed a game or two on them. The biggest benefit is their compact size though. These go with us every where from trips to the grocery, to doctors appointments, to restaurants, to longer road trips. Since they each have their own, it is compact entertainment that will keep them from fighting with each other during long waits. I was concerned when my 5 year old asked for this item for Christmas. I tended to think that she was a bit to young for it, and worried that she would have a hard time manipulating the controls, etc. The difference here though is the touch screen functionality. She can easily guide the characters in her games with the stylus. I think it has increased her hand eye coordination, and there are many educational games on the market for them to use as well.
