Author's Review

I have always enjoyed a wide variety of music, including classical. When I was a teacher, I would often play classical music for my teenage students to do their work by. When I was pregnant, many of my students gave me baby gifts. One group of kids gave me 5 different Baby Einstein classical music CDs. While my daughter and I have enjoyed all of them, Baby Bach was one of the favorites.

The CD

Baby Bach runs a little over 29 minutes. All of the pieces were composed by Johan Sebastian Bach, but arranged by The Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra. Many of the pieces are short sonatas or concertos from various movements. There are also selections from the Goldberg Variations. There are 17 tracks with most running around 2 minutes. Baby Bach earned a Seal of Approval award from the National Parenting Center in 2000.

Our Experience

In Baby Bach, the pieces are played with percussion instruments, flutes, harps, keyboards, guitars, music boxes, and more. The instruments that are used help bring a childlike, magical feel to the music. This CD is a wonderful way to introduce infants and young children to classical music. Baby Einstein has done a wonderful job in making the music of Bach appealing to kids. The arrangements are lighthearted, soothing, playful, with no loud surprises.

I started playing this CD while I was still pregnant. We have a small CD player in our daughter’s room and I often played music while I was putting together the nursery. After my daughter was born, we often played soft music for her. As she got older, it was obvious how much she enjoyed music. She would often squeal and smile when music she liked was turned on. One of her favorites from a young age was Baby Bach. This CD is soothing, but it is a bit lively at times, so it would not be good music to play before naptime. We listened to it during play time and in the car.

My daughter is now 4 ½ and she has her own music collection. She can operate her CD player by herself and often pops a CD in to listen to when she plays in her room. She listens to this Bach collection when she wants to practice her ballet dancing or when she wants something soothing in the background when she plays.

Unlike a lot of children’s music, Baby Bach is something that both adults and children can enjoy together. Baby Bach is a lovely CD which is perfect for introducing the beautiful rhythms and melodies of classical music. I am happy to highly recommend.
