Epinions Civ IV; Massive Entertainment Even If It's Not A Gaming Breakthrough

by  buffoonery,  Jun 8, 2008
Pros: Fascinating and massively entertaining look at history
Cons: The military system really needs improvement
The Bottom Line: Civ IV is a worthy development in the series and worth the bucks to all but the most picky gamer. There's enough here to break up a marriage.
Review: Civilization IV is the latest iteration of the redoubtable, very profitable computer game franchise from Firaxis. Everything is bigger, better, and prettier and this game will provide many, many hours of game play. ItÂ’s addictive. Really ...

Epinions "Build an Empire to stand the test of Time...."

by  alexdg1,  Dec 29, 2007
Pros: Improved graphics and sound, more victory options, automates some boring stuff
Cons: Memory-hoggish, problems with patches
The Bottom Line: For 16 years, Sid Meier's Civilization has been a popular franchise. Now, Sid is back, and Civ IV is the best version yet!
Review: In The Beginning....: It's hard to believe, but it's been a bit over 16 years since I was invited to my computer-savvy friend Raci's house and "sneakily" introduced to one of the most popular strategy game franchises ever published. At the time ...

Epinions Like Crack for the Head!

by  hist,  Oct 30, 2007
Pros: Lush graphics, sound, gameplay, everything!
Cons: easy to learn, hard to master; learning curve, addictive
The Bottom Line: This is a wonderful game as long as your spouse doesn't mind being ignored.
Review: I have generally moved away from computer games, instead relying on my consoles for my video-gaming fun. The ever-increasing technical requirements for the latest cool-looking games just made it hard to keep up. One exception I've made to this, ...

Epinions Civilization IV: A Wondrous Game

by  kjell1979, top reviewer in Games ,  Aug 5, 2008
Pros: Deep gameplay, mod system, accessible
Cons: Leaders don't lend to dynamic gameplay, need better goal-oriented AI, hardware requirements on large maps
The Bottom Line: Civilization IV might be the best computer game I have ever played.
Review: For years I avoided the Civilization games for the same reason I avoided World of Warcraft. I just was afraid that I might get sucked into the game too much that I would end up losing sleep. Lawns would go unmowed. Electricity bills would rise. Yeah I ...

Epinions A Review of Civ 4 for Fans of Civ 3

by  Andyman,  Feb 15, 2007
Pros: Gorgeous graphics, more complex and interesting yet more straightforward than Civ 3
Cons: Still pretty buggy. Gameplay needs to be faster.
The Bottom Line: I never play Civ 3 anymore. This new revision has some problems but is much more interesting, beautiful, and fun than the last version. Worth upgrading!
Review: Civ 4 is a beautiful game with complex dynamics that will tempt your strategic mind and keep you entertained for many many hours of gameplay. It's a revolutionary improvement on Civ 3, but the step up in features has some quality bumps along the way. ...

Epinions Say goodbye to your family and friends!

by  midwestrocker,  Dec 23, 2006
Pros: Features improved graphics, more options, a more vivid and realistic world.
Cons: Diplomacy is too difficult, it doesn't come with many scenarios, and it can get repetitive.
The Bottom Line: If you like strategy games at all, you have to own Civilization IV. You owe it to yourself.
Review: Civilization IV is magic. That's the only explanation I can come up with. It's not the biggest game ever, it's certainly not the most varied. The sound is alright and the graphics are okay. But somehow, this thing will steal your soul. Maybe it's the ...

Epinions Best strategy game I've ever played, not for beginners

by  wagedomain,  Aug 3, 2006
Pros: A great strategy game with tons of depth and immense replayability.
Cons: Hard to get into, major performance issues without the patches, long games alienate casual gamers.
The Bottom Line: This is a great, must-have game if you're a fan of strategy games. If you aren't familiar with the series, tread with caution.
Review: The first thing to be said about this game is that it will be very, very difficult for newcomers to jump into this game. It will be mildly difficult for even the most hardened of game veterans to jump into this game without reading the manual or online ...

Epinions Civlization IV - Being Civilized

by  neurotic33,  Dec 20, 2006
Pros: Great gaming system, excellent graphics, better tiles
Cons: Runs slow on older systems, Learning curve
The Bottom Line: Recommended - Simply for the great graphics.
Review: Civilization IV launched at the end of 2005 and I bought nearly after its release. In its initial launch stage, I had to wait for several series of patches to be released before finally getting into the game. I was still amazed by the great graphics ...

Epinions Sid's Legendary Civ Enters a Golden Age

by  mickp,  Jun 22, 2007
Pros: Excellent additions like religion, civics and great people. A return to good old Civ values.
Cons: Can bog down a little late in the game.
The Bottom Line: Long have devoted Civ fans waited for an entry to match the life-dominating addictiveness of Civ 1. Civ 4 doesn't quite do that, but it comes very close.
Review: Civilization isn't a game - It's a way of life. That's how I felt into the third year of regular play of gaming demigod Sid Meier's original classic. In the intervening years since the release of the original Civ, there have been more expansion ...

Epinions This game owns you!

by  ernietwerbel,  Jul 2, 2006
Pros: Stunning graphics, sound, and immersive gameplay experience!
Cons: Many sleepless nights, will take some time to learn
The Bottom Line: One of the most immersive and captivating games that lives up the the Civilization legacy!
Review: I am a die-hard Civilization fan since Civilization I. Naturally, I pre-ordered Civ IV in September 2005, and have been playing it ever since I got it. CivIV is an "easy to learn, tough to master" type of game. Needless to say, it will keep you up ...
