In this episodic sequel (formerly known as "Aftermath"), players continue the groundbreaking story that came to an explosive halt at the conclusion of Half-Life 2. Players once again assume the role of Gordon Freeman and team up with sidekick Alyx Vance to flee the remnants of a nearly-destroyed City 17 and it's eerily-empty streets. The action begins quickly as the damage to the citadel has been done and Gordon and Alyx must lead the evacuation effort. Enemies previously un-attackable such as crab and mortar synths now stand in your path as you try to help Gordon and others escape the imminent citadel blast. Once again utilizing the Source technology and HDR lighting popularized by Half Life 2, Episode One aims to begin the tradition of episodic content for Half Life fans. Gamers can expect over six hours of game play while taking out enemies with the help of Alyx's pet robot dog. Minimize

Epinions Half-Life2: Episode One is a tease.

by  theuerkorn,  Jul 5, 2006
Pros: Updated graphics (HDR), low cost, same ole' (great) Half-Life2 genes, Alyx ;-)
Cons: Feels somewhat uninspired, very short, Where is my crowbar?
The Bottom Line: Just what we're used to: excellent game but too much "been there done that" and too little "wow".
Review: Half-Life has captured PC gamers and the late but successful sequel Half-Life2 strengthened the image of role model for how-to-design-a-game. With such a burden, the follow-up is going to be tough and development time sure indicates that everything ...

Epinions The best FPS ever goes Episodic

by  donut_man23,  Jul 4, 2006
Pros: Continueation to one of the best games ever made, HDR lighting, develops Alyx's personality, commentary
Cons: Way to short, no new weapons or features, not much new from a tech stand-point
The Bottom Line: I'm only giving this a 5/5 because its Half-Life 2. It does offer few new things but it is definetly worth a play for any FPS or HL2 fan.
Review: When Half Life 2 originally came out I remember how amazing everything about it was, from the graphics and sound down to the core gameplay and physics engine. After finishing HL2 I craved more. Thankfully we don't have to wait 5 years for another ...
