The Carlisle Collection is a classic pottery range - each piece is individual and hand painted. As a collector you will appreciate that each piece is hand-made and therefore pieces will vary which only enhances the appeal. There are many steps in the process. Firstly the artwork design must be transferred to the piece by tubelining. This is a process whereby the raised outline is squeezed onto the piece in the form of a fine extrusion of liquified clay or slip squeezed through a glass tube from a bag held in the sculptors' hand. The metallic oxide based colours are applied entirely by hand, they are then left to dry before another colour is washed over the top until the desired effect is achieved. Colour density depends on the number of "washes" applied to a piece.The piece is then fired after being dipped in transparent glaze in a kiln. A second firing follows, it is this second firing that give the billiance of colour. The wrapped bouquet has delightful detail with tiny coloured ...
